Hi Thang,

I really admire you for thinking about VN in this election; I never thought
about that. I also agree with you that McCain is a great person who is
independent and rarely lies/spins.

I browsed the web a little bit and found that Kerry and McCain took the same
position on almost every issue related to VN. They were both for
normalizing relationship with the Vietnamese Gov't, US-VN bilateral trade
agreement, the waiver of the Jackson-Vanik amendment for Vietnam, and
against the Vietnam Human Rights Act:

Below is the Roll Call for issues related to VN (using "Vietnam" for the
search) since 1994:

Kerry and McCain had the same vote for these issues:

http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=103&session=2&vote=00006
http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=104&session=1&vote=00453
http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=104&session=2&vote=00239
http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=105&session=2&vote=00231
http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=106&session=1&vote=00214
http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=107&session=1&vote=00291

They only differed on this:

Certainly, VN is still far from having freedom of press/religion... and
having a democracy. However, from talking to friends/relatives and from
reading news, it is moving to the right direction. Hopefully, the carrot
can really work like a stick and some day, the US can have enough influence
to the Vietnamese Gov't.

Nam
